The Benefits of a Dental Home

Think of a dental home as your child’s go-to spot for all things smile-related. It’s where they’ll build comfort, trust, and lifelong habits. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends choosing a dental home by your child’s first birthday—and for good reason! Having a familiar team and space makes every visit feel easier, and gives your child the confidence to take charge of their oral health.

Track Oral Development

When your child visits Kids Tooth Team Buda regularly, we’re able to monitor how their teeth, bite, and jaw are developing over time. This means we can catch any orthodontic or growth concerns early—when they’re easier to manage. Plus, we’ll keep reinforcing healthy habits around brushing, flossing, and nutrition every step of the way.

Encourage Lifelong Oral Health

Starting early with positive dental experiences builds confidence that lasts. At our Buda location, we’ll teach your child how to care for their smile now and for years to come. And if the unexpected happens—like a dental injury or emergency—you’ll already have a trusted team ready to jump in and help when it matters most.

Build a Relationship

Seeing the same smiling team at every appointment helps kids feel safe, seen, and supported. As your dental home, we’re here for you at every stage—from teething to teenage smiles—with expert guidance and plenty of encouragement. And for kids who may feel nervous, that comfort and familiarity makes all the difference.

Our Preventive Services

Prevention is truly the foundation for a healthy smile, which is why we focus so much on it at Kids Tooth Team!

Teeth Cleanings & Oral Exams

Routine cleanings and exams are the heart of preventive care at Kids Tooth Team Buda. We recommend bringing your child in every six months so we can gently remove any plaque or tartar and make sure their smile is developing just as it should. Our pediatric-trained team will keep things easy and upbeat while giving your little one the expert care they deserve. Each visit includes a thorough exam of the teeth, gums, and mouth—plus a head and neck cancer screening and any necessary digital x-rays. We even use advanced AI technology to help spot early signs of cavities or infection that might otherwise go unnoticed. After the exam, your doctor will walk you through their findings and talk through any next steps in a clear, honest way.

Sports Mouth Guards

Got an active kiddo in sports? A custom mouth guard is one of the easiest ways to protect their smile during the game. At Kids Tooth Team Buda, we create comfortable, custom-fit guards that cushion and shield their teeth from injury. Athletes who skip mouth guards are up to 60 times more likely to suffer dental trauma—especially to their front teeth—so don’t take the risk! We’ll help your little all-star stay safe while they play hard.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a simple and powerful way to keep cavities at bay—especially on those hard-to-reach back teeth. At Kids Tooth Team Buda, we apply a thin, protective layer of resin to the chewing surfaces of your child’s molars, then use a special light to bond it in place. This clear coating acts like a shield, blocking out bacteria and acids that cause decay. With good care, sealants can help protect your child’s smile for up to a decade!

Fluoride Treatments

After your child’s cleaning, we may recommend a quick fluoride treatment to give their smile an extra boost. This mineral-rich varnish helps strengthen tooth enamel, making it more resistant to cavities—and can even reverse early signs of decay. At Kids Tooth Team Buda, we typically apply fluoride every six months to keep those growing teeth strong, healthy, and cavity-free.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride is a powerful liquid treatment we use to stop cavities in their tracks—without drilling or numbing. Made with silver, fluoride, water, and ammonia, SDF is brushed right onto the affected tooth to prevent the cavity from getting worse. It’s especially helpful for young children or those who aren’t quite ready to sit through a filling.

While SDF will turn the treated area dark, it’s a small price to pay for saving the tooth—and in some cases, we can blend it with a white filling or replace it later for a more natural look once your child is ready. It’s a safe, effective option we’re happy to discuss with you at your child’s visit to Kids Tooth Team Buda.

What dental problems could my child have?

Tooth decay is the most common dental issue we see in kids, and it can affect both baby and adult teeth. Cavities develop when sugary foods and drinks mix with oral bacteria and aren’t cleaned away properly. These bacteria produce acid that slowly wears down the tooth’s surface, leading to decay. The good news? Cavities are almost entirely preventable with daily brushing, smart snacking, and regular visits to Kids Tooth Team in Buda.

Other less common concerns may include bite issues (malocclusion), early tooth loss, delayed tooth eruption, or tongue and lip ties that can affect speech and feeding. Accidents can also happen—like a knocked-out or chipped tooth from roughhousing or sports. Whatever the issue, our experienced team is here to help your child smile brighter with personalized care and support every step of the way.

Why are baby teeth important?

Even though they don’t last forever, baby teeth play a big role in your child’s health and development. They help your little one chew, speak clearly, and smile with confidence—often for a full decade before adult teeth take over. Keeping those tiny teeth clean and cavity-free helps your child feel their best and avoids unnecessary dental visits down the road.

Baby teeth also act as guides for incoming permanent teeth, making sure there’s enough space for them to grow in straight and strong. If a baby tooth is lost too early, we may recommend a space maintainer to keep everything on track. At Kids Tooth Team Buda, we’re here to make sure your child’s smile develops just the way it should—from the very first tooth to the last baby one they lose!

How often should my child visit the dentist?

We recommend bringing your child in every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup—starting when their first tooth appears or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. These regular visits to our Buda office help us prevent common dental issues like cavities and ensure your child’s teeth and jaws are developing properly.

Routine cleanings clear away plaque and tartar, while exams (and the occasional X-ray) help us catch small problems before they turn into big ones. Plus, these visits make going to the dentist a normal, even fun part of your child’s life! The more familiar your kiddo is with their dental team, the more confident they’ll feel in the chair—and the better their habits will be at home. At Kids Tooth Team, we’re all about creating a positive foundation for lifelong oral health.

When can kids start brushing on their own?

Most kiddos are ready to brush on their own around the same time they can tie their shoes—usually by age 5 or 6. Until then, it’s important for parents to do the brushing to make sure every tooth is squeaky clean (especially those back molars!).

Once your child starts brushing solo, we recommend making it a family affair. Brushing together lets you model great technique, keep an eye on their progress, and make the routine more fun. As for flossing, it takes a little more coordination. Many kids won’t be ready to floss by themselves until age 7 or 8, so go ahead and help out until then. Daily flossing is key for keeping those in-between spots cavity-free!

Is fluoride bad for my child?

Fluoride has been proven to safely reduce decay, but if you have concerns as a parent we have alternatives that are clinically effective that we can provide.
